Patient Moving and Handling
The Aim of Your Patient Moving and Handling Course:

This course is designed for Healthcare Workers who need to be taught how to safely move and handle patients under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work 2005 and Manual Handling Regulations 1993 and 2007.

Pre-requisites:

There are currently no prerequisites for this course. Participants should be physically well enough to carry out a range of patient moving and handling techniques.

Who should attend:

The course is for people who need to learn the safe and effective techniques used in the safe moving and handling of people in a variety of different settings and conditions.

• The Law and its application to the Manual Handling Environment
• Musculoskeletal System
• Biomechanics and Mechanism of Injury
• Flexibility
• Ergonomics and Risk Assessment
• Basic Principles of Lifting
• Log Roll
• Sitting a Patient Up in Bed
• Turning a Patient in Bed using Sliding Sheets
• Moving a Patient Up in a Bed using Sliding Sheets
• Sitting a Patient to Edge of a Bed
• Standing Up a Patient
• Transferring a Patient from Bed to Chair
• The Falling Patient
• Correctly use a Hoist & Slings

Method of Delivery:

The course is facilitated by an experienced instructor, using both classroom studies and extensive hands-on, practical demonstrations and exercises.

Duration & Assessment:

The course is 7 hours of practice and theory. Participants will be evaluated on their Patient Moving and Handling techniques and must demonstrate competence in all movements and pass a written test.

Certification & Renewal:

Upon successful completion Participants will be issued with a 2 year certificate. In order to maintain this qualification after your two year certification period, you will be required to re-take the course again, as there is no refresher training for people who currently have an in-date certificate.

Location of training site:

Our training rooms are state-of-the-art and located in the Gilbert Centre in Mallow, Co. Cork.

Cost:

Class will only run with a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 8 participants and cost €95 per person.
